Is acupuncture safe?

When performed by a fully qualified TCM practitioner, acupuncture is completely safe and free from harmful side effects. The acupuncture needles used are pre-sterilized, single-use, and are both safe and painless. They are discarded safely after each treatment. Acupuncture has stood the test of time for over two thousand years and remains a reliable and effective therapy.

Does acupuncture hurt?

When performed by a trained professional, acupuncture is generally not painful. The needles used are extremely fine—comparable to a strand of hair—and their insertion is often barely noticeable. While the insertion itself is typically painless, it may occasionally cause brief discomfort, which lasts only a few seconds. Some individuals report a mild pressure or tingling sensation once the needles are in place, but this is generally not perceived as pain.

What Does Acupuncture Treat?

Acupuncture is effective in treating individuals experiencing deficiencies or imbalances in their health. It can address physical, psychological, emotional, and even spiritual conditions with equal efficacy. Acupuncture can be used as a standalone treatment or in combination with other TCM methods, as well as alongside Western medical treatments.

Who can have treatment?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers an extensive range of treatments suitable for a wide variety of ailments. It caters to clients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, addressing conditions that may be chronic or acute, severe or mild, and physical or mental in nature. TCM is particularly beneficial for pregnant women, providing support for both antenatal and postnatal care, benefiting both mother and baby. Additionally, acupuncture within TCM can be highly effective for individuals experiencing challenges with conception or expanding their families. It is entirely safe to receive acupuncture alongside conventional Western medical treatments, including chemotherapy. In fact, acupuncture often complements these treatments, enhancing overall care and well-being.

Can children have acupuncture?

There are no limitations on who can benefit from Chinese medicine and acupuncture. These treatments are safe and effective for individuals of all ages, from children to the elderly. Acupuncture is also safe during pregnancy and can greatly assist both the expectant mother and the unborn baby. Even newborns and infants can safely receive treatment. Children can attend appointments with a parent or guardian. Acupuncture is gentle and, in most cases, children do not mind the needles. Even babies can be treated without discomfort.

What is TCM?

TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine, an ancient, well-established, and well-documented medical system. Through Acupuncture and other classical therapies such as Chinese Herbal Medicine and Medical Qigong, TCM aims to restore energetic harmony within the whole person. This not only treats illness but also promotes overall health, vitality, and enhances the body's resistance to disease. TCM is the primary form of medical care for a large portion of the world's population. One of the most distinctive and attractive features of TCM is its emphasis on promoting positive health from its earliest days, going beyond the mere treatment of disease.

Can TCM be combined with other forms of treatment?

TCM, including Acupuncture and Medical Qigong, can be used in conjunction with other medical therapies and disciplines, such as Western medicine. Your practitioner will focus solely on TCM methods of treatment, but it is important to continue consulting your Western medicine doctor as needed.

What is the cancellation policy?

Sometimes, things come up, and you may need to cancel an appointment. Please contact Oxana at 083 047 7760. Kindly note that cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will require full payment.

How much does the treatment cost?

Cost per individual treatment €60 (30-45 min)
The initial consultation and TCM diagnosis €70 (60 min approx.)
Medical Qigong €150 (1h 30 min).

Will I need to pay for a course of treatment in advance?

No, you will be charged on a per-visit basis and are required to pay for each treatment as you go. Please note that if you miss a scheduled appointment without providing at least 24 hours' notice, you will still be charged for the session.

Can I recover any costs from my health insurance?

Oxana Finn is a registered member of PRTCM (Professional Register of Traditional Chinese Medicine), which is recognized by VHI Healthcare, Laya Healthcare, Irish Life Health, and other health insurance providers in Ireland. If you have insurance with one of these providers, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a portion of your acupuncture treatment costs.
